VINICOLA
APOLLONIO
Puglia, Italy
|
<< BACK |
www.apolloniovini.it
Marcello
and Massimiliano Apollonio are the fourth generation
of the Apollonio family to carry on the family business,
which dates back to the 19th century.
 |
|
The
wines of Apulia have never received as much interest
as they do now. Tasting Apollonio's wines shows
that here at least the attention is justified. |
|
Great
care is taken in the production and vinification
of local grape varieties to produce wines of uniquely
southern Italian character. Powerful and complex,
the wines have flavours of ripe, dark fruits and
leather, attractive weight, richness and balanced
tannin.
|
|
 |
|
The
Salento peninsula has hot, dry summers but cold, desert-like
nights retard ripening and develop aromatic complexity
in the fruit. Massimiliano attended the Locorotondo
Institute and has since worked for producers in France,
Spain and Italy. He puts this experience to good use
in the family firm where he combines traditional techniques
with the best of modern practices in order to carry
the quality of the fruit through to the bottle. Total
annual production is about 50,000 cases.
 |
|
With
an eye to the world outside Italy, Massimiliano
and Marcello are proud of the natural advantages
they have in Salento and exploit these to produce
distinctive and delicious wines of the highest quality. |

SALENTO
ROSSO IGT, "Valle Cupa", Apollonio
A
wine of remarkable intensity and balance, showing
the true potential of Southern Italy. Intense, dark
brooding fruit is given structure by soft integrated
tannins and subtle oak ageing. Powerful but well
poised, long and complex to finish. |
|
 |
|
SALENTO
PRIMITIVO DOC, "TERRAGNOLO", Apollonio
Depending
on who you talk to, the Primitivo grape is either
the same or very similar to California's Zinfandel.
Either way, it provides an exhilarating array of
flavours dominated by wild brambly fruit, sweet
oak flavours and an almost balsamic savouriness. |

 |
|
SALICE SALENTINO DOC, Apollonio
Apulia,
the home of Salice Salentino, nestles in the very
"heel" of Italy and produces wine of great
renown. Full, rich and velvety with complex baked
fruits and soft, leathery tannins. |
|
 |
|
COPERTINO RISERVA DOC "Divoto", Apollonio
One
of Southern Italy's most important DOC's produces
wines of great intensity and power. This wine's
bottle age has produced a mellow style, packed full
of dried fruit character followed by a lovely chocolatey,
charred finish. |
