THORN CLARKE
Barossa Valley, Australia |
<< BACK |
www.thornclarkewines.com.au
New to the portfolio in 2008 are the wines of Thorn Clarke and we are delighted to be able to offer these wines that already have a presence in the U.K. market.
| Thorn Clarke is a wine business with 6 generations of history and a record of grape growing dating back to 1854 – making some of the Thorn Clarke vineyards amongst the oldest in the world! |
However, it was not until 2002 that the Thorn Clarke brand was released and since then there has been almost universal recognition for the quality, typicity and value for money that Thorn Clarke represent.
Using only Estate grown fruit for their Thorn Clarke wines, they utilise top quality grapes from 4 vineyard sites across the Barossa Valley and the cooler, white dominated Eden Valley.
Rarely have we seen wines that have both value and sense of place in such abundance and so we are sure that they are going to be a huge success.
But don’t just take our word for it ... with 15 trophies in just 5 years and a top 100 place in the Wine Spectator, they have already made a great name for themselves. |

Terra Barossa Pinot Gris, Eden Valley
Sourced from fruit grown high up in the Eden Valley, away from the heat of the Barossa Valley floor, this Pinot Gris displays crisp, lemon and honeysuckle fruit. Well balanced with great texture coupled with hints of floral, toasty citrus character. |
Terra Barossa Chardonnay, Eden Valley
Utilising fruit from the cooler Eden Valley, Thorn Clarke are able to make a wine with crisp, well balanced tropical fruit and subtle oak ageing. Well rounded, with touches of pineapple and toasty vanilla, this is classy stuff. |
Terra Barossa Riesling, Eden Valley
Sourced from the cooler Eden Valley part of the Barossa, the Riesling vines benefit from the longer, cooler growing season to provide fruit that is crisp, citrussy and tangy. Dry, deliciously refreshing and citrussy on the palate with a minerally, lively finish. |

Terra Barossa Shiraz, Barossa Valley
Thorn-Clarke’s family history of grape growing date back to the 1850’s and as such they have some of the oldest Shiraz vines in the country. This wine is deep crimson red with bright, juicy black fruits and hints of spice. Soft, creamy fruit and touches of coffee on the palate make for a superb value example of classic Barossa Shiraz. |
Terra Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon, Barossa Valley
Grown on estate vineyards that stretch back 6 generations, this is a wine with history and real style. Dense, black fruit overlaid with smoky oak and touches of spice and coffee. Smooth, velvety yet structured on the palate.. |
Terra Barossa Nebbiolo, Barossa Valley
Italy’s Nebbiolo grape is more famous for making Barolo than taking up home in the Barossa but this delightful, cherry scented red is proof that the grape can travel! Pale garnet in colour with savoury, dried fruit and sweet oak lead on to a firm, crisp finish. |
Shotfire Ridge Shiraz, Barossa Valley
Though a relative newcomer to the Aussie wine scene, the Thorns and the Clarkes chart 6 generations of history in the Barossa. Much of this time has been spent either growing grapes or in mining and this much lauded label combines the two. Deep, inky black in colour with savoury, sweet ripe fruit and a robust finish. |
Shotfire Ridge Quartage, Barossa Valley
Utilising the best grapes from the Thorn Clarke vineyards in the heart of the Barossa, this blend of 5 grapes produces a seemless wine that is filled with ripe, dark berry fruits, hints of mocha and vanilla. Full bodied but well balanced. |

William Randall Shiraz, Barossa Valley
Thorn Clarke’s top red is a blockbuster red made from some of the oldest vines not only in Australia but anywhere in the world. The resulting juice is concentrated and inky black with rich, savoury black fruits overlaid with coffee, chocolate and wood-spice. The palate is silky smooth yet well structured and is almost never-ending. |
