SHERWOOD
ESTATE
Waipara, South Island, New Zealand
|
<< BACK |
www.sherwood.co.nz
| Dayne
and Jill Sherwood started Sherwood Estate in 1987
when they planted their first vines in West Melton
on the Canterbury Plains, 10 minutes west of Christchurch.
|
|
 |
|
Since
then Sherwood has grown significantly and expanded into
other areas of New Zealand including Waipara, Marlborough
and most recently Hawkes Bay. Currently extending to
130 acres, a further 120 acres have been added to the
estate recently and will be producing in the next 2
to 3 years.
|
After
trialling many varieties Sherwood now specialises
in Pinot Noir,Chardonnay and, of course, Sauvignon
Blanc. In the vineyard, great care is taken over
clonal selection and canopy management in order
to produce the best fruit possible.
All
the wines are made in the estate winery in Waipara
using a combination of traditional techniques
and some of the most modern equipment available.
|
|
 |
|
Pinot
Noir is given a short pre-fermentation maceration and
is then fermented at controlled temperatures in open
topped tanks using hand plunging followed by a period
in oak. French oak barrels are also used for fermentation
and maturation of Reserve Chardonnay but, as with all
the wines, care is taken to maintain clarity of fruit.
Sherwood
Estate aims to produce subtle, elegant and complex wines
that capitalize on the wonderful quality of fruit that
New Zealand's vineyards can produce.

SAUVIGNON BLANC,
'Stoney Range'
A pronounced, herbaceous nose with plenty of ripe gooseberries, guava and nettles on the nose - very typically Marlborough style. The palate is crisp, racy and mouthwatering with hints of grapefruit, guava and gooseberry followed by a long, enticing finish. |
| |
|
|
 |
|
RESERVE
DRY REISLING, Sherwood Estate
Restrained
apple and pear fruit on the nose with hints of lime.
Well balanced, crisp and rounded, showing good concentration
of tangy lime fruit character offset by touches
of honey. |
|
 |
|
SAUVIGNON
BLANC, Sherwood Estate
New
Zealand provides us with the world's most characteristic
flavours. Ripe, tropical fruit mingles with racy,
gooseberry and asparagus hints. |
|
 |
|
CHARDONNAY,
Sherwood Estate, Canterbury
The
growing move towards unwooded wines gives New Zealand
the chance to show the quality of fruit it can produce.
Ripe, tropical fruit flavours, crisp acidity and
a long lingering creamy finish. |
|
 |
|
CHARDONNAY
RESERVE, Sherwood Estate
Carefully
selected bunches of grapes, pressed gently and fermented
100% in new French oak then aged on their lees for
twelve months. Delicious ripe tropical citrus fruit
overlaid with subtle oak. |
|
 |
|
PINOT
NOIR, Sherwood Estate
Sourced
from different vineyard sites exclusively for Sherwood,
the wine is vinified separately and then aged in
oak. Vibrant colours, cherry and plum character.
Medium bodied. |

SAUVIGNON
BLANC, Clearwater Vineyards
Clearwater
Vineyards are based in Waipara, which in Maori means
muddy water! This is a stylish, complex Sauvignon
with intense, grassy, tropical notes on the nose
followed by a rich palate of crisp, tangy fruit.
Full flavoured and very long, this is a classic
example of why New Zealand Sauvignon is so sought
after.

|
 |
|
CHARDONNAY,
Clearwater Vineyards
Clearwater
Chardonnay is a richly concentrated white, benefiting
from barrel fermentation in French oak. Complex,
nutty, mealy character in the mouth with bright
citrus fruit lift. Long, concentrated finish with
touches of mineral and honey. |
|
 |
|
PINOT
NOIR, Clearwater Vineyards
Clearwater
Pinot Noir is made in a traditionally Burgundian
manner to produce a wine with bright raspberry and
wild strawberry fruit coupled with savoury, vinous
tones. Medium bodied with a silky tannin structure
and opulent mouthfeel. Long complex and savoury
on the finish. |
