When Bruwer Raats announced to his winemaking friends in 2001 that he wanted to create the New World’s finest Chenin Blanc, they all laughed and predicted that he would be bust within the year.

But as a result of his dedication to researching the specific soil on which Chenin Blanc grows best and his relentless hunting for blocks of ancient vines he has won huge international acclaim for his wines including Wine Spectator, Jancis Robinson, Matthew Jukes…the list goes on. Now widely considered the best Chenin Blanc producer in South Africa (and the only Cabernet Franc specialist), we are delighted to welcome Raats Family Wines to Alliance.

Chenin Blanc Original
Packed with succulent flavours of apple, pineapple and citrus with hints of ginger, honeysuckle and orange blossom and a lovely minerality. Bright and tasty it is made without any oak to preserve the grape’s “original” vibrant fresh fruit character.

Chenin Blanc
A perfect balance between elegance and power. Luscious flavours of honeyed pear, butterscotch, citrus and ginger with hints of mineral and spice.

Cabernet Franc
Uber elegant and profound this shows the heights Cabernet Franc can attain. A core of blackberry, black cherry and plum with notes of liquorice, tobacco, coffee and spice. Silky tannins on the palate, hints of dark chocolate and delicious minerality on the finish.

MR de Compostela
Critically acclaimed collaboration between Bruwer Raats and his friend and top Stellenbosch Oenology graduate Mzokhona Mvemve. This is a blend of the 5 grape varieties of Bordeaux, made separately and then tasted blind – whichever ends up best makes up the largest part of the final blend, the second best the second largest part etc. Complex, subtle, elegant and profound it is one of South Africa’s greatest reds.
