In quite the most spectacular position, the Quinta de Ventozelo is perched high above the majestic Douro river and encompasses some 650 ha in total with some 250 ha planted to vines - making it one of the three biggest single estates in the region.

Though the Quinta has been mapped for centuries and has been a supplier to some of the major houses, it has until recently not marketed wines or ports under its own name.

Five years ago it was sold to a major Spanish fish dealer who wished to invest heavily in the estate and the transformation and investment have been staggering. Neatly terraced vineyards are now almost entirely planted to 16 different varieties whilst the second phase of investment in the winery is now reaching completion. The scale of the work that has already been done is amazing.

At the same time, the owners have launched a range of table wines and ports that has already hit the headlines. The Wine Spectator has recently voted Ventozelo as the value brand of the year whilst giving two of the single varietal table wines 92 & 93 points.The combination of some of the most amazing vineyards sites along with progressive, open minded owners means that this is sure to become one of the stars of the portfolio.

		Ruby Vinzelo, Quinta de Ventozelo A bright, fruity port with hints of brambles, wood spice and liquorice. Deep colour and great depth of fruit concentration make for an easy drinking style.

		Ruby Reserva, Quinta de Ventozelo An impressive depth of colour coupled with massively concentrated dark, brooding fruit. More like a vintage port than a ruby, this offers superb value and a richly warming, vibrant port.

		Late Bottle Vintage, Quinta de Ventozelo Ventozelo's jaw droppingly beautiful vineyards yield concentrated, complex grapes with which to make this dense, complex style of LBV. Avoiding filtration, Ventozelo allow all the natural intensity of fruit to come through which, when coupled with judicious wood maturation, produces one of the finest ports of its type.

		Tawny Port 10 Year Old, Quinta de Ventozelo Best enjoyed slightly chilled, aged tawny port is one of life's great pleasures. Hints of caramel, dried orange peel and liquorice on the nose. Toffee, dried fruits, hints of hazelnut and coffee on the palate. Very long and very moreish.

		Vintage Port, Quinta de Ventozelo Ventozelo make vintage ports that whilst more than capable of ageing for decades, also provide a beautifully balanced port in its youth. Dense, brambly fruit with licks of liquorice, spice, coffee and tobacco followed by a long lingering finish.


DOC WINES

		Vinzelo Red, Quinta de Ventozelo Vinzelo Tinto, Quinta de Ventozelo A spicy mid weight red from one of the most beautiful estates in the Douro. Delicious, savoury red fruits with hints of plums, leather and chocolate lead through to a gentle, satisfying finish.

		Tinto, Quinta de Ventozelo Produced from a melange of indigenous port grapes at the spectacular Ventozelo estate in the Douro Valley, this is a medium bodied, vibrant red with spicy, redcurrant fruit with hints of coffee and wood spice.

		Reserva, Quinta de Ventozelo The unique soils of the Douro Valley have traditionally given their character to Ports but table wines now play an important role in the reputation of this area. Using the best port grapes of Touriga Nacional, Tinto Roriz and Tinta Franca, this Reserva style wine is filled with bright, savoury fruit flavours coupled with mellow, integrated oak influences.

		Touriga Nacional, Quinta de Ventozelo Using possibly the most famous of all the port grapes, Ventozelo have crafted a big, dense red crammed full of spicy damson fruit with earthy, savoury notes. Intriguingly aromatic, almost violety at times, this fine expression of the Douro is a potential classic.

		Tinto Roriz, Quinta de Ventozelo Tinto Roriz, otherwise known as Tempranillo, delivers up lots of ripe, savoury wild strawberry and plum fruit coupled with well balanced oak treatment. The meagre soils of the Douro make for a concentrated wine with bags of character.
