The Abruzzo region of Italy is often maligned as the source of much quaffing wine and though quaffing wine has its uses, there are some who are trying to achieve greater things.
One such producer is Collefrisio. Managed by three young, dynamic partners and based in the Frisa hills of Abruzzo, they farm 35 hectares in three distinct vineyard sites. The Valle del Moro estate runs from the Maiella mountains down to the sea and is home to 12 hectares of Montepulciano and Trebbiano.
The Morrecine Estate is also 12 hectares and is located on a sea-facing hill between Ortona and Tollo. The stony soils here are ideal for production of high quality Trebbiano and Montepulciano. Finally, the Giuliano Teatino estate, situated in the Maiella foothills above the Venna valley, has wonderful red clay soil which produces great Pecorino and Montepulciano.
The modern, clean lines of the packaging give a helpful clue to the contemporary style of the wines. Whites are clean, crisp, varietally pure and distinct. Reds have ripe fruit, judicious use of oak and succulent, savoury tannins.

Montepulciano D’Abruzzo DOC ZERO
Organically produced and modern in style, this Montepulciano is a far cry from the high volume glugging variety. Rich, juicy and savoury with bright, herbal black fruits and soft, smooth finish.
