CLOVER HILL & LALLA GULLY
Pipers River, North Eastern Tasmania

www.taltarni.com.au

Clover Hill in the Pipers River region of north east Tasmania was established by Taltarni Vineyards in 1986 as a dedicated sparkling wine estate, planted to traditional sparkling varietals, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, with the sole purpose of making a premium sparkling wine. Taltarni chose the 66 ha site overlooking Bass Strait as the ideal location to make a hallmark Australian vintage sparkling wine with its similar climatic conditions and growing degree days to the Champagne region of France. The property capitalizes on three natural assets – a cool climate, ancient volcanic krasnozem soil, and a frost-free sheltered amphitheatre.

Clover Hill is commonly judged as Australia’s finest prestige sparkling wine. Clover Hill’s first vintage was in 1991, made from 100% Chardonnay fruit, and first released in 1994. Since 1993 the blend has evolved to include smaller proportions of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Highlighting Clover Hill’s commitment as a dedicated sparkling wine estate, the estate was awarded an inaugural 2005 Tasmanian Vineyard of the Year and served at the Danish Royal Wedding Celebrations of Princess Mary and Prince Frederick.

In close proximity to Clover Hill is Lalla Gully vineyard. Established in 1992 and purchased by Taltarni in 1998, Lalla Gully is a picture perfect specialty vineyard dedicated to producing cool climate aromatic white varietals and Pinot Noir. Focus at Lalla Gully is on optimizing light interception and fruit ripening via canopy management techniques with most of the vineyard planted on a Lyre ‘V’ trellis system on elevated rich red soil slopes around the gully, acting as a natural shelter from heavy winds.

Affirming Tasmania’s growing international recognition for superb aromatic Rieslings, Pinot Gris and sparkling wines; Lalla Gully wines distinctly reflect the intense and fresh mineral aromas and flavours of Tasmania’s cool climate wine region. Clover Hill and Lalla Gully wines are crafted by Senior Winemaker and French Oenologist, Loïc Le Calvez.

    CLOVER HILL SPARKLING
Produced from vineyards in northern Tasmania, Clover Hill is often quoted as the finest sparkling wine made in Australia. It benefits from the long cool growing season which gives the grapes time to ripen slowly, develop flavours but retain a lovely crisp acidity. On the palate, Clover Hill is rich and soft with yeasty, nutty hints coupled with pear and apple fruit flavours. Lively and creamy, with a persistent, fine mousse, this is very elegant fizz.

    CLOVER HILL SPARKLING ROSE
Clover Hill’s reputation for being one of the finest Antipodean fizzes is well justified so it is with great glee that we welcome the pink version. Made from the classic Champagne grape varieties, it is a delicate salmon pink with enticing aromas of redcurrant, wild strawberry and brioche. Well balanced, savoury and dry, it is a perfect aperitif.

  RIESLING, LALLA GULLY
This is a racy, vibrant Riesling from Tasmania. Crisp, dry and aromatic on the nose with lovely limey, elderflower character coupled with touches of grapefruit. Good intensity of flavour with hints of mineral.

    PINOT GRIS, LALLA GULLY
Beautifully balanced, restrained elegance from the cool climate Pinot. There are touches of honeyed apple and pear on the nose with a palate that has great texture and a creamy mouthfeel. Perfect compliment to many foods and especially those with mild spices
