CHATEAU KA
Bekaa Valley, Lebanon
|
<< BACK |
Lebanon is said to be the ancient home of the vine and it quite certain that wine production has played an important role in the indigenous culture for centuries.
However, as most will be aware the recent history is that of a beautiful land, torn apart by civil war and destruction. Fortunately, inspirational character like Gaston Hochar at Chateau Musar have kept winemaking alive and we are now delighted to be representing another such inspirational producer, Chateau Ka.
Chateau Ka, literally meaning “soul for an ancient god”, was founded by Akram Kassatly as recently as 2000, with the first release of wines in 2006. Previous attempts to start the wine business had been thwarted by war but this time the winery has flourished. The initial planting of 50 acres, at 1200 metres elevation, is growing and by 2010 there will be some 300 acres in production.
Varieties planted include Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat, Chardonnay and Semillon – giving an eclectic mix of varietals with which to fashion some truly surprising wines.
