CASCINA ADELAIDE
Piedmonte, Italy

Amabile Drocco fulfilled a lifetime’s ambition when he purchased the 7 hectare Cascina Adelaide estate back in 1999.

Having been brought up on the land – his father farmed orchards and a few vines – Amabile spent most of his career building up a bakery machinery business. As his own sons became able to help in that business he seized the opportunity to go back to the land by buying Cascina Adelaide and turned his attention, skill and determination to turning around an underperforming estate into one which is now widely fêted as one of the most exciting producers in Piedmont.

With vineyards in some of the best sites, including Preda and Cannubi, there was always the potential to produce great fruit. With reduced yields, improved viticulture and some replanting this potential is now being realised and fruit quality is fantastic.

This, and the appointment of Sergio Molino as oenologist and the completion of a remarkably beautifully designed winery almost in the shadow of Barolo Castle, has brought about a total transformation of Cascina Adelaide’s fortunes.

Although the first vintage the new team had complete control over was as recent as 2000, the wines are already garnering many awards and lots of attention from the press including Decanter Magazine, Gambero Rosso, Wine Spectator et al. Amabile is not a man to stand still however and Cascina Adelaide is a work in progress and a long term family project so expect to hear a lot more about developments here as they continue to strive for excellence.

Dolcetto di Diano D’Alba DOC ‘Vigna Costa Fiore’ Cascina Adelaide
Dolcetto's soft, juicy, early drinking style often belies the quality within. This wine is packed with delicious ripe black cherry and spice coupled with hints of coffee and wood.

Barbera D’Alba Superiore DOC ‘Vigna Preda’ Cascina Adelaide
Sourced from low yielding vineyards in the Preda "Cru" region of Barolo, this crisp, intense red is a classic example of the variety. Rich, soft, yet juicy and structured it has hints of ripe red fruits, touches of mineral and a seemless finish.

Langhe Nebbiolo DOC Cascina Adelaide
Sourced from three low yielding vineyards in the regions of Barolo and La Morra, this is a wonderful buy for those who love the style of Barolo but perhaps not the price!. Aged in oak barrels for 12 months, the wine emerges ruby red with a lifted bouquet of roses, wild strawberries and wood spice. Elegant, finely balanced and silky smooth on the palate.

Barolo DOCG Cascina Adelaide
The would-be "king of wines" is famed around the world for it's unique, almost ethereal bouquet coupled with its ability to match the wonderful foods of the region. Concentrated grapes, carefully vinified then aged in oak for 24 months results in a perfumed yet robust wine with crisp, floral, red fruited character.
