BODEGAS LEDA
Non DO Cigales, Ribera del Duero & Toro Spain

SARA SOTO
Cigales, Spain

Few people in Spain have dared, like the Italians have, to take the non-D.O route to market – until now that is! Bodegas Leda’s first vintage (1998) took the Spanish wine world by storm, taking the title of Wine of the Year against competition from all of Spain’s top reds. Few had heard of the wine at that point but since then the wine has gone from strength to strength – even giving birth to a baby, Mas de Leda.
Sourced from a multitude of old vine sites dotted around Toro, Ribera del Duero and Cigales, the grapes are brought to a small, hands on winery in Tudela where they are carefully crafted, under the watchful eye of Cesar Munoz, into extraordinary, beautifully structured examples of the heights that Tempranillo can reach.
The one D.O wine in the range, Sara Soto, hails from the nearby Cigales region and is a wine whose proceeds go towards a charity to help one of the owners daughters.

Mas de Leda, Bodegas Leda
A baby brother to widely praised Leda Vinas Viejas, Mas de Leda comes from very old vines dotted around the Cigales, Toro and Ribera del Duero region. More approachable in its youth, Mas' delivers deeply concentrated, rich, fruit laden character with a supple but lengthy finish

Leda Vinas Viejas, Bodegas Leda
When this wine was launched by Jesus Soto in 1998, it took the Spanish wine world by storm - outgunning such prestigious names as Vega Sicilia and L'Ermita. Deliberately ignoring the D.O system, the wine is sourced from vines of at least 80 years old across the regions of Toro, Ribera del Duero and Cigales. The result is a real blockbuster of a wine that displays immense concentration, power and finesse. A brooding wine with swirling chocolate, tobacco and Mediterranean herbs on the nose followed by a well structured yet supple palate.

Sara Soto
Sourced from the emerging region of Cigales, close to Valladolid, this is made from Tempranillo grapes and is aged using high quality french oak. Supple, smooth and succulent with bright, cherry and plum notes followed by a delicious chocolatey finish. All proceeds from the production of this wine go to a charity to help the disabled daughter of the winery owner, after which the wine is named.
