Armstrong, Great Western, Victoria
Don’t speak to Tony Royal about the harvest in 2007 - there wasn’t one! A combination of drought and frost meant that there was little or nothing worth picking - just lucky that Tony has a “real” job running the Portavin bottling and packaging plant in Adelaide.
However, Tony’s training is in winemaking where he has worked for some of the “big boys” as well as selling French barrels to the Aussies and so he knows a little about great wine and great oak. At the family vineyard in the town of Armstrong in Victoria, Tony fashions a couple of Shiraz based wines that have caught the eye of key luminaries such as Tim Atkin MW in the recent past. Eschewing the fashion for bold, ballsy Shiraz, these are subtle, textural wines that reflect the cooler, less predictable climate of Great Western.
We’re delighted to be representing these wines as they further enhance our regional Aussie portfolio but also when Tony is going on about how good the Aussie cricket team is, I can threaten to delist them if he doesn’t desist! |
