Shelmerdine Vineyards Reap Awards

The most recent addition to our Australian portfolio, Shelmerdine Vineyards, couldn’t have got off to a better start in the U.K. First off came Matthew Jukes’ Top 100 rating for the eagerly awaited Merindoc Single Vineyard Shiraz then we heard the great news that the 2004 Shelmerdine Heathcote Shiraz had won gold at the 2006 International Wine Challenge!

Halliday’s new Australian wine guide for 2007 gives the Shelmerdine range a glowing review with 5 stars and to top it all, the gold medal winning Shiraz has been awarded the Victorian Trophy at the IWC! Phew….quite a year for this relative newcomer.

What’s especially pleasing is that Shelmerdine’s wines are not blockbusters. They are subtle, finely woven wines that are a reflection of the land that they came from and it reflects well on judges over here that this subtlety was spotted amongst the hoards of more showy wines. On a recent trip to Oz, we were also shown a preview of the forthcoming Pinot Rose which is a stylistic departure from the usual Aussie rose and will be much sought after when it appears over here…..
