Kiwi Is Met With Passion For His Fruit
by Nick Whyte

Dayne and Jill
Sherwood

Dayne Sherwood is a regular visitor to our shores, he brings his own brand of Kiwi informality blended with single minded dedication to his work. This time it fell upon myself to organise his Scottish adventure. With a little bit of help from him upstairs we managed to get Dayne stuck in a blizzard and soon after enjoy some open top motoring with Miriam.

Dayne if you didn’t know is the owner and founder of Sherwood Estate Wines based in Waipara, New Zealand. He started out in business in the early eighties at a time when the smart money was getting into anything but wine.

From a very humble start and a large loan from the bank Dayne has now grown his business to a level where he has a number of vineyards in Waipara and Marlborough and a state of the art winery with a team of winemakers. (I did not ask how large the bank loan is now).

The Tasting Rooms Café Bistro - Dundee
Dayne seems to remember the trip to Dundee as the highlight of his trip though that may have had a lot to do with the weather! The venue for that particular dinner was at the ‘Tasting Rooms’, Dundee’s latest boutique wine shop. The evening was based around Sherwood wines and Dayne kept the sell out crowd of sixty thirsty Dundonians happy. The wines as always were well received with the Clearwater Sauvignon being raved about by many. Colin Spiers the manager said, ’The combination of fresh fruit and oaky barrel fermentation was outstanding, it blew them away.’
