W.S.E.T. Secrets

Nick Whyte

I’ve always liked James Bond, I used to imagine myself in an Aston Martin, with a harem of ladies, pocket full of cash and an ice cold (cooler than cool) attitude.

Reality is a cruel bedfellow, I’m now over 40, married with three children and as for the car, the closest I will get is A STONey faced MARTIN our transport manager. However our A.P.P. (approved programme provider) number from the W.S.E.T (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) is 1 007 which at least puts a smile on my face.

As I am not a secret agent and WSET training is not classified, but merely useful then I can tell you all about the programme and what it can do for you. WSET run a number of courses, ranging from Foundation to the Honours Diploma. Alliance Wine will be offering the Foundation course to it’s customers from this spring onwards and we recently carried out our first examination. Everyone passed!

The new Foundation course has been brought bang up to date looking at wine production and wine styles with a deliberate accent on matching wine with food. This takes shape in the form of practical sessions focussing on structured wine tasting and food matching taking a minimum of six hours to complete which can be split into a number of days. At the end of it all you get a government authorised and internationally recognised certificate, and most important of all, the course gives a much greater level of confidence for all front line staff in a hotel or restaurant environment.

The course would normally cost £145 per person but Alliance will be offering it to our customers for £70. This is a small investment for a big return in employee and customer satisfaction. If you would like more information on the course and its availability please contact your sales representative.
