Skuttlebutt Rumours

Blind tasting can be a risky business but even more so when you are in the company of a winemaker and you know that one of their wines is in the line up! That was the situation that presented itself whilst on a recent visit to Stella Bella wines in Margaret River. Janice Mcdonald, eager to check out the competition, lined up an array of competitor wines for the new Skuttlebutt range and we set about sorting the wheat from the chaff. True to form, I was my usual diplomatic self and declared a couple of the wines as abysmal, a few pretty average and a couple were excellent. Only after I had uttered these words did I consider what might happen if one of Janice's wines was one that I had damned!

I needn't have worried as it happened - though I won't of course mention the names of the damned wines, I'm happy to reveal that the wine I rated highest (genuinely blind) was Skuttlebutt white 2005. A ringing endorsement for Janice's ability to turn out cracking, truly characterful wines at all price levels and styles.

So, confident in the quality of the wines, we'll be launching them in February and will have all three wines, red, white and rose available throughout the year. We'll be backing this up with point of sale material for independent retailers and a fantastic Riedel glass promo for volume on-trade customers. Why not ask your sales manager about how you could get your hands on the funky new Riedel "O" wine tumblers?

Stop Press.... At the Margaret River wine show, held in November, Stella Bella Shiraz 2004 beat off competition from 70 of the great and the good to scoop best wine. Well done to Janice and we look forward to taking the wine later in the year.
