GruV Austria

OK, here we go again. It is becoming more and more well known that Austria produces world class wines, both red and white. It even has its own increasingly fashionable grape variety, Gruner Veltliner, sometimes known as GruV, fantastic as an aperitif and with Asian influenced food. A story we have told before but, following some landmark tastings last year and a major trade event last summer, the ripples are being felt outside the fanciest restaurants and consumer interest is finally on the increase.

In Alliance Wine’s portfolio there are three Austrian producers, each offering excellent value; Weingut Stadt Krems makes pure,

elegant, complex white wines; Norbert Bauer makes full, spicy and fruity reds; Alfred Fischer makes sublime, tropical, balanced sweet wines.

Fritz Miesbauer, one of Austria’s wunderkind winemakers, moved to Stadt Krems last summer. We await the results of the remarkable 2003 vintage with extra anticipation. In the meantime take a look at the current listings and see what you and your customers have been missing out on.
