Barbera d’Alba “Mezzavilla”, Malabaila di Canale

Enough talk of these producers established for all of a couple of minutes, the Malabaila di Canale estate has been producing wine since 1362 as is proudly displayed on the label and the current owners, the family of the Count Malabaila, bought the vineyards in the early 15th century from the Counts of Roero.

To add to the delicate, fragrant Arneis “Pradvaj” which we already list we have just shipped the 2001 Barbera “Mezzavilla”. This is a robust, richly flavoured, single vineyard Barbera with good, ripe fruit, made in a modern style and aged in oak barriques for extra spice and structure.

Malabaila di Canale supplied wine to the House of Savoy, who were to become the Kings of Italy, throughout the 16th and 17th centuries. Their wines today are incredibly good value for such delicious wines with such an amazing history.
