RUBINES ALBARINO, RIAS BAIXAS, SPAIN

Albarino has to the be the most fashionable of all Spanish whites and it certainly offers relief from the more traditional somewhat oxidised whites of Spain's past! After much tasting, we have now decided to take on the wine we thought to be the best rather than a compromise between price and quality. Rubines is a single vineyard Albarino produced by the leading winery in the region, Adegas Galegas.

The grapes are sourced from 40 year old vines grown in the tiny Freixa vineyard where a favourable aspect ensures very ripe grapes and consequently a slightly higher alcohol level. As a result Rubines manages to combine the racy, citrus tinged style of Albarino with a more complex, weighty, textured palate.

With the Autumnal clouds pushing in, the thought of a bottle of this washing down a lobster whilst sitting under a hot Spanish sun seems quite appealing!
