HAVANA HILLS

South Africa has been an area of significant growth over the last year with our Bushman's Creek and McGregor ranges doing particularly well. A trip to Cape Wine 2002 back in April confirmed our hopes that the quality and consistency that the Cape has always promised is now a reality.

With a whole raft of new quality led producers showing the way, the future of the industry looks bright. One of the brightest lights of this new wave is Havana Hills, situated just 18kms from CapeTown and only 7kms from the Atlantic Ocean. Described by John Platter as "one of the most spectacular wine farms in the Cape", Havana Hills is the brainchild of Kobus DuPlessis and winemaker Nico Vermeulen.

Utilising long hours of warm sunshine coupled with cooling Atlantic breezes, Vermeulen, along with some help from esteemed Bordeaux winemaker Alain Mouiex, fashions wine that are both fruit driven but elegant and restrained.

Despite the relative youth of the estate, Havana Hills has already gathered many awards, including a five star rating by John Platter, four Veritas double gold winners, numerous Veritas golds and a listing in SAA first class.

Alliance is delighted that we have. This world class, estate based South African range to really shout about. The wines are available now and will be based around two ranges. Havana Hills wines are more fruit driven, elegant but immediate. Du Plessis Reserve are concentrated, complex and show more European restraint than their siblings. All varietals are limited to 300 cases or less for the U.K so be sure to have a taste.
