Cascina Adelaide – a new star, rising, in Barolo

Amabile Drocco is the son of a Piedmont farmer and is clearly a man who thinks big. Having spent most of his working life on rather more profitable ventures than farming, in his sixties he decided to start a winery. Not just any winery either. He and his family acquired seven hectares of vineyards in some of Piedmont’s most famous cru and, in 2003, completed an extraordinary new winery in Barolo. The resultant wines are generous, juicy, supple and wonderfully balanced.

Cascina Adelaide is a fantastic addition to our Italian portfolio and from September we will be listing the following wines:

  • Dolcetto Diano d’Alba “Coste Fiore” 2006
  • Barbera d’Alba “Vigna Preda” 2004
  • Langhe Nebbiolo 2004
  • Barolo 2003

Collefrisio – a new take on an old tradition

Collefrisio is another new venture but this time created by three young friends, two of them third generation winemakers, with a modern, stylish take on Montepulciano d’Abruzzo.

The winery is nestled in the Valle de Moro in the Frisa hills of Abruzzo with vineyards in three distinct locations.

Two levels of Montepulciano are made. Collefrisio Zero is made from grapes typically harvested in October and kept in stainless steel for maiximum fruit. Collefrisio Uno is from grapes picked a little later, a little higher in alcohol and partly matured in wood. Both wines have great purity of fruit, character and length.

The three aim for healthy soil, healthy grapes and healthy vines to produce the best quality wines and are now registered organic. Not bound by tradition or afraid to experiment they are producing fantastic quality and are another great addition to the Alliance Wine portfolio.
