When the Wind Blows...

According to the Glover Family, when the wind blows across Marlborough, it is Zephyr-like and so they named their new brand Zephyr. Someone being conceived in the back of a Ford Zephyr was mentioned but we are going with the wind reference!

Anyway, brand stories aside, Zephyr launches with two extraordinary whites from the 2007 vintage – a Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurztraminer. Sourced from the family vineyards that have provided fruit for both Wither Hills and Cloudy Bay, they are great examples of their type.

The Sauvignon is intense, aromatic and textural…with hints of guava, mango, asparagus and grass. Characteristically Marlborough the Gewurztraminer is restrained where the Sauvingnon Blanc is bold... this is tight, lightly aromatic and perfumed but this is real drinkable Gewurztraminer as opposed to the Turkish delight, lychee, grannies perfume style that might be interesting to taste but not to drink.

Received with almost unanimous praise at our London portfolio tasting, Zephyr wines will arrive on these shores around the beginning of December...
