Alliance Wine
February 2009

The Dream Team

Alliance Wine is delighted to announce that Fergal Tynan MW will be joining  the company in March 2009 in a move that is set to surprise a cautious wine industry.

Alliance Wine, one of the UK’s leading independent importers, producers and distributors of premium wines (and currently IWC Scottish Merchant of the Year) has surprised the industry by announcing the appointment of Fergal Tynan MW to the board of directors. Tynan, currently with Boutinot, joins a board that, along with Giles Cooke MW, will now boast 2 MW’s and the move is set to accelerate Alliance’s ambitions both domestically and internationally.

After a period of solid growth, Alliance felt that it was in a good position to prosper in an otherwise difficult market and the opportunity to bring together two of the most commercial MWs in the business was too good to pass up.

Tynan will join Alliance with responsibility for ensuring further growth in all off-trade sectors and will lend his extensive knowledge of own production to enhance Alliance’s existing forays into owned brands and setting up international subsidiaries.

Giles Cooke MW, Wine Development Director for Alliance said:

“I’ve known Fergal since the first day of the MW course  and his encyclopaedic knowledge, detail, energy and relaxed attitude  have to be admired. There are obvious synergies of our skills and we’re confident that along with the rest of the team at Alliance, we’re going to be able to make Alliance world class”

Alliance Wine, which celebrates its 25th year in 2009, has grown rapidly in recent years as the move from regional on trade distributor to national distributor to all sectors bears fruit. Looking to further improve its portfolio whilst building on the success of Alliance Wine Australia, Alliance believes that the changes it is making will enable growth within an otherwise shrinking market.

“ Whilst trading in existing businesses remains difficult, we’re confident that by offering a fabulous portfolio, great service, innovative approaches to purchasing and production and top quality staff, we will not only survive but prosper in the current conditions. With both Fergal and I having ground level expertise in many key countries, we are well placed to not only assist Alliance in bringing in the very best wines at competitive prices, but also to assist others in making the right decisions. We are confident that our clients will see tangible benefits from this move in terms of increased market support, improved product ranges and increased competitiveness.” added Cooke.

Alliance Wine is an independent company with offices in Beith, Ayrshire, central London and Adelaide. The board is now made up of : Chris Bouteiller, Managing Director; Jonathan Kennett, Chairman;  Giles Cooke MW, Wine Development Director; Karen Cunningham , Operations Director; Miriam Spiers, Sales Director ; Fergal Tynan MW Business Development Director..
